Vertical separator in forums index

Hi. I’ve got a question. Atm, my forum looks like this:

I know that’s a really stupid one, but my customer wants it to look like this, this is, like, really important for him:

Is there any way to do this? I searched through plugin files and i haven’t found any whatabouts. I’m a total noob in PHP, though.
